When you get to the end of your life, and if you are one of the ‘lucky’ ones that are able to remember the past and how it played out, will it be an “oh that was nice, I have fond memories sort of deal?”
Or will it be images of epic, of bold, of joy, of laughter, of fun, flashing across the screen of your mind? Images of a life well lived, layered with incredible sounds, beautiful memories, vibrant colours, moments that simply take your breath away, and which result in a fist pump and a soul deep “Yesssss…that was soooo good!!”
Which it will it be?
I have been pondering:
If the desired experience of life is the latter, and for me it is; and if I, we, accept there will be ups and downs and nothing lasts forever, not the good times, or the less than optimal times, then …Am I, are we, living our best life? Do we even know what that looks like? Feels like? What fills our cup? What drains it? Are we taking steps daily in the direction of our dreams?
Have I, have you, even answered the question - What do we want? Like really want?
What do you really want? What lights your soul on fire? Not a what do you need to do or should do…. What do you want?
I was having a conversation earlier, and wanting for the sake of wanting came up. Briefly.
Want, is defined as:
1. to have a desire to possess or do (something); wish for.
And more informally:
2. should or need to do something
Is it okay to want something just because we want it?
Not a need. Not a should. Just plain old want.
Do we often do what we should, or think we should do, as opposed to what we want to do? Are our daily decisions guided by what’s practical or good for the whole, or by what we want? If we get quiet with ourselves... in the stillness ... what would the answer be to what do we want? Like really, really want.
